Making a Plan to Capitalize on FEMA Map Modernization for the Commonwealth
Presentation Abstract
The FEMA Map Modernization Program is a massive effort to update and upgrade Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) nationwide. Over the five-year period of 2004-2009 there is a total of over $1 Billion to fortify the effort, and those funds are most readily distributed to states with detailed plans and established modes of communications between state and local governments. Although Pennsylvania has excellent history of collaboration with local government in adopting FIRMs and publicizing their benefits, we do not have a plan to capitalize on this effort or to leverage the investment against other mapping efforts like PAMAP. This presentation will describe our opportunities and options for capitalizing on FEMA Map Modernization.
