Moving Act 537 Sewage Management from Shelf to a Standard
Presentation Abstract
Many of the Commonwealths Municipalities have been or will eventually have to face updating their Act 537 Plan as required by DEP. One of the biggest challenges facing Municipalities and Consultants alike is making sense of all the required testing and evaluations, and compiling them into a useful breathing document with the ability to impact the Township in a productive and responsible manner. Given the limited resource at the Townships disposal and the requirements of DEP 537 a system has been developed using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS is involved from the start with mail-out surveys to the final analysis and evaluation. The final compilation is completed using Spatial Analyst by weighting all the data collected into a comprehensive map displaying all areas of concern. This enables the Township to direct their limited resources to the areas of greatest concern.
