GIS For Local Government Conference 2004 Presentation

Thursday 27 October 2004: Session Tract 2

Development of Arkansas’ Wetland Information Management System

Presentation Abstract

Arkansas’ Soil and Water Conservation Commission (ASWCC) has collaborated with RGIS Mid-South and many other conservation-focused agencies to develop an online, wetland information system. The goal of this project was to leverage our statewide geospatial infrastructure and effectively disseminate current wetland related program reports to any interested agency or organization via the internet. The challenges of this project will be discussed, such as our need for digital data and our efforts to ‘directly connect’ various agencies into one statewide warehouse of information. An overview of the project and the technologies required to accomplish these tasks will be provided, but we’ll also discuss our success and failures with regards to the development of useful tools for our decision-makers.
